Doing things you enjoy

Berlin has a lot of sunshine and blue blue skies, very similar to Namibia. It also has many parks filled with an abundance of trees, shrubs, flowers, grasses..
Every day, I walk amongst them, and every day I saw them getting just a bit more thirsty. Living in a desert country has made me so much more aware of what happens when there is no rain.

It is a subtle process, the leaves looking less fresh, the flowers hanging just a little...
Easy to ignore in the beginning.

It reminds me so much of what can happen to us if we don't feed what is truly important in our lives.

You would like to go to the exhibition opening, but your partner rather wants to stay in and you decide to do the same.
It would be so nice to sit in the garden with a cup of tea for a while, but there are dishes to be done and emails to be answered.
You used to love to explore new parts of your city, but now you go to the same places all the time.

When was the last time you learned something new? Or ate a dish you have never tried before? Or had a conversation instead of sitting in front of the tv?

The longer we stay in a rut, the more uncomfortable it gets to do things differently. Life is familiar and comfortable. Until it begins to feel slightly stale. Unsatisfying.

Just like the plants without water, we start to wither.

The more dried out we become, the less energy we have to do something that would fill us up.

Which isn't much fun.

How about doing something today that you really, truly, enjoy? And how about knowing that you enjoy it while it's happening?

Put it there on your to-do list, between 'get passport renewed' and 'buy dog food'.

It is up to you to bring the magic back into your life! One little happy moment at a time.

Lots of love
